Academic enterprise in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences has led to many successful partnerships with industry and the College actively continues to seek new collaborative opportunities. The College can provide a range of services to the industrial sector including contract research, access to facilities, training and consultancy.
The College of Medical and Dental Sciences has developed an active programme to identify, protect and commercialise current and future IP arising from its vibrant research activities. As a result of this activity, the College, with the University’s technology transfer company, Alta Innovations, have been successful in licensing a number of technologies to industrial partners and have recently created a number of spin-out companies.
A further initiative to facilitate the College's commercialisation activities is the establishment of the External Commercialisation Board. Members of this College Board are internationally recognised professionals drawn from a range of institutions (e.g. pharmaceutical, biotech, finance, legal) who provide advice concerning the College's overall commercialisation strategy as well as help and advice relating to the commercialisation of individual projects.
