The Centre for the History of Medicine was established on the 1 December 2000, the 175th anniversary of the foundation of the Medical School, to support and promote teaching and research in the History of Medicine and help develop the reputation in this field in one of the UK's major research universities. |

| Wellcome Clinical Research Facility |

The Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham was established using a Wellcome Trust Millennial Grant for Clinical Research Facilities. The Wellcome Trust, which is Britain’s largest biomedical charity, launched its £18 million initiative in order to strengthen clinical research in the National Health Service. |

The Birmingham Cancer Centre is the first of a series of Cancer Research UK funded Cancer Centres to be established across the UK. The Centre’s research into cancer genes, gene therapy and cancer-associated viruses, combined with its high-profile Clinical Trials Unit, will aim to push new discoveries into the clinic faster than ever before. |
