Finance and Contracts Office

The Medical School Finance and Contracts Office cover a number of discrete but inherently linked functions. These are:

  • Accounting
  • Resource Allocation
  • Financial Management and Planning
  • NHS Contracts and Financial Interface
  • Management Information and Professional Advice
  • Financial Control

The office has a professional link to the Central Finance Office, and it complements the work done by the Medicine and Dentistry Accounting Team in that office, (primarily the administration of research grants and contracts).

The office has the following staffing complement that provide the following services.

  • The Finance and Contracts Manager (Acting), Seamus Foley, email S.Foley@bham.ac.uk is the overall financial controller for the School and has overall responsibility for management of the Team. He performs the function of financial advisor to the Dean and Senior School Officers, he controls, designs, and develops of the School’s Resource Allocation Model and is the NHS contract signatory. There is a professional link through to the 6 Divisional Managers.
  • The Assistant FInance Manager, Cathy McGarry, email c.mcgarry@bham.ac.uk, is responsible for the management of Agreements with NHS organisations, she interacts with Finance and Management staff in all NHS bodies and with Divisions in the School (and in other Schools) to facilitate effective contractual, accounting, and information requirements. In addition she provides services to the NHS in respect of SIFT (under a contract from the NHS Regional Office) which includes the analysis of student load, SIFT Contracts with Trusts, supporting the management of the Regional SIFT Budget, and she provides advice and support regarding SIFT issues to Divisions.
  • Financial Analyst / Project Officer, Suki Basra, email S.Basra@bham.ac.uk
  • FInancial Analyst, Julie Cope, email j.k.cope@bham.ac.uk
  • Accounting Assistant, Stuart Underhill, email B.S.Underhill@bham.ac.uk, is responsible for administering the School General financial documentation and transactions, he administers all School General accounts, financial reports and budgets, maintaining registers of capital projects, assets and recruitment costs and provides support for SIFT payments to GP Practices and other NHS funded posts. He also provides an interface with the processing officers in the Central Finance Office.
  • Secretary / Accounts Assistant, Silla Winter, email S.L.Hart@bham.ac.uk or extension 47959, provides full secretarial support for the Finance and Contracts Team and administers the processing of all AV1 forms and the servicing of the AV1 Release Group meetings.
