The largest structure is the Main Building, opened in 1936. To the west side of the main building is the West Extension, opened in 1968 and also the Institute of Biomedical Research opened in 2003. To the north east, and physically separate from the Main Building, is the Robert Aitken Institute of Clinical Research (opened 1953) and also the Institute of Cancer Research (opened 2001). The Division of Primary Care, Public and Occupational Health is located on main campus.

Responsibilities
The Estate Office in the Medical School is responsible for all aspects of running the Medical School buildings and provides the first point of contact for all strategic, development and planning matters associated with the Medical School Estate. It provides an essential interface between the University Estates Management Office (EMO) and with the School’s partner NHS Trusts.
